Celebrating pleasure physiology and self-love, the ASUCD Gender and Sexuality Committee will be hosting its annual Good Vibrations Sex Toy and Masturbation Workshop on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1322 Storer.

The workshop will feature educational books and videos on healthy ways for students to express themselves sexually, according to junior Genna Carnes, GASC chair.

Sophomore Andrew Bianchi, a GASC member, said the workshop is one of the most-attended ASUCD events each year. He said that by focusing on masturbation, the event would broaden its student representation.

"It's part of ASUCD's responsibility to cater toward the students' wants and desires, and this has proven to be a very popular event," he said. "We're trying to express that sex is a positive experience. People have different values regarding it, and we don't want to misrepresent anyone."

"This [event] is more about being introspective and self-aware ? being able to embrace and be comfortable with your own sexuality and being able to express it," he said.

In past years, the sex toys workshop has raised concerns among some students who disapproved of the idea of a student government funding sex workshops.

Carnes said that though some may be displeased by the message being promoted, the purpose of GASC is to "promote all forms of gender and sexuality on campus."

Other students had concerns that past sex toys workshops effectively advertised for Good Vibrations, the company that provides the resources for the workshop.

In the past, GASC allowed Good Vibrations to distribute catalogs and coupons for its products at the sex toys workshop. This year, however, GASC requested that the company not do so.

Ivanov said the commission is working to put on events that appeal to students who may feel underrepresented in terms of sexuality. He said, as an example, that a workshop promoting abstinence was a possibility for the near future.
