SCOTS psychic Derek Ogilvie claims spirits queue up to speak to him when he is on stage. It appears many are determined to send heartfelt messages to their nearest and dearest sitting in the audience.
During one show Derek sensed that one particular lady's father was trying to get through to her, but the images he kept sending were of her bare bottom and what looked like a bowl of spaghetti.
He asked the lady in question if she knew what it might mean and after a few bemused moments realisation flooded across her face and she announced to the quietly waiting audience her father must be referring to the fact she had worms.
During one of his earliest shows in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, the psychic felt a message coming through for one lady in the audience. He was able to tell her she had three children ... and the fact they all had different dads.
The baby mind reader said: "I have learned a lot since those days including how to be a bit more discreet and diplomatic when revealing certain messages, but that in itself can actually cause me problems. When I pass on messages I want to be able to prove to people what I'm saying is true.
"It is good if they are able to validate what I am saying for my sake as well as that of the rest of the audience. But that can be difficult when I am having to be deliberately vague in order to tiptoe round something the spirits are trying to tell me.
In fact, anyone who has ever seen Derek on stage may be hard pushed to recognise the mild-mannered soul who exists in his body the rest of the time.
Derek the performer is someone removed from reality and quite at home with extremes of emotion' Derek the man is quietly spoken and reassuringly normal.
He said: "I couldn't be the person I am on stage all the time. That man is loud and outgoing but I actually live alone in the country with my cats and sometimes I can find my two selves hard to balance.
"Still, I love doing the stage shows and when I am up there in front of an audience I get a real sense I am finally doing what I am meant to be doing."
When he was a student he struck up a relationship with a music shop owner and started buying old guitars to clean up and sell on. A couple of years later Derek had opened his first business, The Guitar Store.
In fact, 1994 turned out to be one of the most significant years in Derek's life. Not only did he buy his first bar, he also came to terms with his sexuality and began to terms serious notice of his psychic abilities.
A few months after she had passed on, Derek was out shopping when he heard his gran clearly tell him that he should use his psychic powers to work on a radio show.
WITHIN minutes of speaking to Jay, Derek had told him he was getting a new blue car in the next couple of days and that he had recently been embarrassed about something when intimate with his partner.
Derek visited the home of a woman in Dumbarton who was desperate to hear from her dead mum, but when the psychic entered her home it was the thoughts of her three week-old baby that he started to receive.
Not so and, as Derek's reputation as a baby mind reader started to grow, more and more mums came to him intrigued to find out what was going on in their little ones' heads.
In communicating with the tiny child he had discovered she was having trouble breathing and, although Derek had a bit of trouble understanding exactly what the baby was trying to say, his information was enough to make her mum seek help.
"I know how some of this stuff sounds, but what can I say? None of this is about my ego, it's just the way things are, and I am now glad that I am finally doing what I am meant to be doing.
Derek will be performing at the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow on Tuesday, November 7. Tickets cost between £12 and £14. Telephone the box office on 0141 332 1846.
