It almost goes without saying that the rapping clowns known as Insane Clown Posse are an acquired -- and very specifically acquired -- taste. But what isn't often acknowledged is that a sizable chunk of young folks have continued to acquire it, buying wholesale into the pair's bizarre sound world, a hip-hop mishmash of cartoonish violence, carnival imagery, adolescent sexuality and man-boy bravado (greasepaint liberally applied).

Those zealous fans, better known as Juggalos, are a notoriously loyal bunch, and they'll probably lap up this two-CD compilation of mostly outtakes, remixes and previously unreleased tracks, though outsiders might wonder if the ICP circus, more than a decade old, might be running low on tricks and treats. The duo completed its seven-album cycle, the Joker's Cards, in 2004, and this is ICP's fourth odds-and-ends volume released in seven years, which could fairly be interpreted as a desire to get every last studio scrap into the marketplace.

The devotees will find the first of the two discs most welcome, as it contains a large chunk of previously unreleased material, most from the "Shangri-La" and "Hell's Pit" sessions, including a handful of tracks produced by studio whiz Mike E. Clark, who has been behind the boards for most of the duo's top work.

ICP gets beat up a lot by those outside the clan, but songs like "Clown Walk," "If I Was King" and "Nobody Move" make the case that even the clowns' castoffs have a certain charm and musical validity: The production casts a distinct and spooky shadow, and the rhymes hit the foreboding funny bone. If nothing else, ICP is like nothing else.

The second disc is the first all-in-one-place compilation of a series of singles that have been passed out at the duo's legendary Halloween concerts in Detroit. Titles like "Dead Pumpkins," "Mr. Johnson's Head" and "Toxic Love" tell the Juggalos all they need to know.
